One of my bookish resolutions was to incorporate more posts that were not reviews so here we are! I first saw this tag on Katie‘s channel and I thought it was a great tag to start the year off with. I know this is primarily for booktube, but rules were made to be broken weren’t they? 😉
1). Are there any genres that you’re going to read more of or less of in 2018?
I am a fantasy and thriller nut so I tend to stick to these genres. While I will probably continue mostly from these genres, I would like to broaden my horizons and read things that are out of my comfort zone.
I read Red Rising in the first week and loved it, so I expect I will start picking up some sci-fi this year which is totally different for me!
2). Are there any books you have recently read that changed or challenged some of your own philosophies and beliefs?
I wouldn’t say that it changed my beliefs or anything, by Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult was incredibly eye-opening and such an important read. It really gets you thinking. I truly think that everyone should give it a go.
3). Who would you recommend for a ”newbie” to watch?
While I am all for supporting smaller booktubers (and a lot of smaller channels are my fave!), I would recommend some of the slightly bigger channels for newbies. People like: Ali at hardback hoarder, Amanda at read all the books, Clara at Clara reads books, Elliot Brooks. I feel like you can really get a feel for the personality that you like to watch and go from there.
Seeing as I’m cheating by doing this tag on my blog, I thought I’d recommend some blogs for you to read too!
4). Do you have a reading book bucket list?
My mum actually bought me one for Christmas. It has a list of (I think) 100 books and a anything from classics to much loved series.
5). What is it about BookTube /blogging that has surprised you the most?
The whole book community in general is so supportive. As well as bookish things, I am drawn to beauty influencers which can have such horrible comments! It was a breath of fresh air coming into the book community! Everyone is so lovely and I have made some great friends from being here.
6). What are some of your goals?
I have written a blog post on all my bookish goals which you can find here.
As well as those, I would like to take part in more buddy reads. I have done two this year already and I have loved them and is something that I hope to continue going further.
7). If you could meet (dead or alive) any writer, artist, or musician who would they be?
If you know me in person, you will know that I love Amy Winehouse. Maybe not so much for her music, but for the person she was and how her mind worked.
Book wise though, I would love to meet J K Rowling.
8). Would you rather have your life written by your favorite author or be portrayed in a movie by your favorite actor/actress?
My initial thought was movie. However, Jodi Picoult is my favourite author and she tackles sensitive subjects so well, that I feel she would write my struggles with mental health so beautifully. Hands down, I would like her to write my life.
9). What are some of the challenges you have had to overcome or would still like to improve upon in regards to your channel/blog?
I would like to get better at writing more consistently. I have only really used this platform to write my reviews for NetGalley but I would like to be have a more regular schedule. I would also like to restart my booktube channel, so watch this space 😉
10). What advice would you give to someone that is thinking about deleting their BookTube channel or blog?
As someone who has deleted their channel, I would say that you need to do what is best for you. If your channel or your blog has become something that you no longer enjoy or is becoming bad for your health (whether that is physical or mental) you do what you need to do. And if you decide to come back when you’re in a better place, we will welcome you back with open arms.
That’s it for the questions! I won’t tag anyone because the questions are meant for booktube, but I just couldn’t resist haha. If you want to do this tag, then I would love to know your answers.
