Favourite Books of 2017

How are we only 3 days away from the new year?! I have had an okay reading year: I surpassed my reading goal of 50 books but I’ve found picking my favourites harder than last year. Not all of these books were 5* for me, but these are the ones that have stuck out as my favourites. I have not included rereads in this list which is why my goodreads list looks quite different. Anyway in no particular order, here are my best reads of 2017!

Frostblood/ Fireblood by Elly Blake

I read Frostblood right at the beginning of the year and when I saw the sequel on NetGalley I requested it straight away. This is a series that is commonly criticised for being similar to other YA fantasy reads but I love it. I love the world building and the characters and I cannot wait for the next one to come out next year!

I have full reviews for both Frostblood and Fireblood

Both solid 4/5* reads!

Countless by Karen Gregory

34299826I absolutely adored this book. As someone who struggles with an eating disorder, I find that I am drawn to books of this nature and this is the best one I have ever read by far. It deals with such a sensitive topic with delicacy and not once did I find myself triggered by the content. I cannot talk more highly of this book, and I would recommend this to anyone. 5/5* easily.

The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter made it to my #1 favourite read of last year, so when I saw The Good Daughter on NetGalley requesting it was a no brainer. I was not disappointed. Over 500 pages and I flew through it in 4 sittings. Miss Slaughter has quickly become one of my favourite thriller authors and I cannot wait to pick up more. This received a 3.5/5 star rating from me!

Everless by Sara Holland

I received an ARC of this last month and was one of my most anticipated releases of 2018. I loved this book. I loved the characters, I loved the world and I loved the premise. It’s such a unique fantasy novel and I am so pleased that I was able to read this before release date. Definitely a 2018 must read!

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

I finally done it. After saying for years that I will pick up ACOTAR, 2017 was the year that I done it. I am so pleased that I did. I am a huge fan of retellings and this has become my new favourite. I’m not normally someone who gives into hype, but I honestly believe that the hype around this book is deserved. I cannot wait to carry on the series and may make ACOMAf my first read of the new year!

Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

Small Great Things was my favourite book of 2017, hands down. Jodi Picoult holds the title of my favourite author of all time, so you may think this review is biased. On the other hand, it says a lot about her that she’s my favourite author. I read so much and so many authors that to get the number one spot is impressive. I cannot talk highly enough of this book. It handles heavy topics, which are so important but it does so with sensitivity and grace. Picoult’s writing style is just beautiful. I am in complete awe.

5/5 stars easily.

Honourable Mentions

As always my honourable mentions go to the illustrated editions of Harry Potter because how can I not?

That’s it! Hopefully I will have many more options to choose from in 2018. There are definitely some great sequels coming out in the new year which I cannot wait for!

I would love to know what your favourite reads of this year were. I would never say no to more recommendations 😉

Happy reading!
