2018 Reading Goals

With the new year fast approaching, I thought I would take this time to set myself some goals for 2018. Hopefully doing this will motivate me to read more and make more informed decisions in what I pick up. So here is what I hope to achieve:

Goodreads Goal:

I am planning on setting my Goodreads reading goal for 50 books again. 50 books was also my goal for this year and I managed to read 61 books in total (even with my 3 month reading slump). I haven’t been picking up as many books recently and my reading has definitely slowed down, but hopefully setting my goal for 50 books will encourage me to stay on track.

People who know me, know that I SUCK at sticking to TBR’s. I find that I am a mood reader so just pick up books that take my fancy at the time, but I am determined to get through these books:

page.jpgYes I know. I am yet to read all of these (please don’t hate me). I feel like I need to use 2018 to read books that are highly recommended but I have been putting off for whatever reason. I also would like to read:

  • Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
  • Red Rising by Pierce Brown
  • Turtles All the Way Down by John Green
  • Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh
  • The Diabolic by S. J. Kincaid

I have put myself on a book buying ban for the time being, but I only own 5 of these books so I’ll have to break it at some point (such a hardship haha).

Other Reading Goals

I am also hoping to read longer books next year. I have a tendency to avoid books over 500 pages because they intimidate me a bit and I like to get through books quite quickly. A lot of these books I know I will enjoy, but due to their size they are just sitting on my shelf. 2018 is the time to read them!

At the start of this year, I decided I would take part in the Pop Sugar challenge. This was not something I stuck to, but I did enjoy having prompts. For Christmas, my mum bought me a ‘book bucket list’ so this will be my prompts for the next year. I will not read them all by all means, but I want to cross a few of them off.

I also want to continue reading one book a month in memory of Kerry. This was something that I was good at doing at the beginning of this year, but when I hit my reading slump it went out of the window. It is something that I want to start up again.

This year, I have taken part in 3 readathons and I absolutely loved them. So in 2018, I would like to take part in more. This will also help with my GoodReads reading goal. I’m hoping Jasmine will continue to host more adventure-athons because they are the best readathons I have ever taken part in!

I will also be hosting A Novel Experience Readathon again, in memory of my dear friend Kerry. You can find more details here.

My goal in regards to NetGalley is to read the books that I have been approved before requesting more. My feedback ratio is currently 53% so I would like to get this up.

Blog and BookTube

This year, I stopped uploading to my BookTube channel and deleted all my videos. For a while now, I have been thinking about restarting and getting back into the swing of filming videos. Hopefully I will find the courage to post my first video!

For my blog, I would like to publish posts more regularly. I have been using this platform mostly for posting reviews (which I would like to continue doing) but I want to start writing different posts and posting them more often.

These are all my goals for 2018. Hopefully I will have a good reading year and won’t procrastinate too much!

Let me know what your goals for 2018 are, I would love to know.

Happy New Year to you all

Stacey x
